Does liking heavy metal make you a bogan? Kinda. Metal’s pretty daggy with all its black t-shirts, long hair and devil hand gestures (you know the one: \m/ > . < \m/ ). But I still love a bit of metal every now and then and today I found out about a new and very exciting metal supergroup currently in the production stage.
Mastodon guitar shredder Brent Hinds (pictured) has apparently formed a currently un-named musical endeavour with Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen and ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery. Since I own multiple records of each member’s respective band, I’m more than a little excited at the prospect of hearing what these lads come up with!
However, Hinds has revealed that it could still be a little while until we hear any material from the supergroup. “We tried to get together and do an album, but there’s been no time,” Hinds recently told Noisecreep. “We want to record crazy stuff and Ben is working on that, but it’s been hard to get together”.
Hinds also joked that he wanted to call the band Giraffe Tongue because “they look sick’’. Alternatively, they could combine the names of each of their main bands and call themselves something like The Mastodon Volta Addiction Plan… or maybe not…
Will keep you posted on what the guys do next.
