This year I was given the opportunity to review the Big Day Out for Everguide. It was easily the biggest event (pun intended) that I’ve had the chance to cover. And I went as part of the media with guest tickets and all. I was shitting myself before it but I was also excited too. I wanted to do a good job. I ended up writing the following review:

Big Day Out: The Bands, Flemington Racecourse, Jan 29

Please have a read of it. My highlight was Röyksopp and lowlight was Best Coast. I wasn’t too thrilled with Yeezy as a headliner too. There’s also a sweet gallery by Ian Laidlaw over there.

Inject some incongruity into your Friday with Battles’ `Ice Cream’. It’s a beautiful and quite zany clip.

And for those hoping to catch the band in a live setting soon, keep those fingers crossed! Battles guitarist Ian Williams recently let it slip to triple j’s Zan Rowe that they intend to head to Australia over the New Year. “I think we’re talking about coming down there the end of this year so we’re talking December, January time. Maybe New Years Eve territory. So, we’ll be there,” Williams explained.

Battles’ new album Gloss Drop is out now. It featuring guests appearances from Gary Numan, Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) and Yamantaka Eye (Boredoms).
