Following the first round of acts announced for the Falls Festival this morning, you’d better have your fingers crossed we all survive the Mayan apocalypse because the New Years parties in Lorne and Marion Bay are going to be off the hook.
The folks at the Falls Festival have a knack for roping in killer headliners and this year’s lineup continues that trend with the Flaming Lips set to bring in 2013 in euphoric style. Seriously, they couldn’t have got a better headliner in my opinion. A Flaming Lips gig is closer to a religious experience than a rock & roll gig (if you ask me).
If that wasn’t enough, joining Wayne Coyne and his cohort of zany rockers at Lorne and Marion Bay will be Beach House, Best Coast, SBTRKT, The Vaccines, Boy and Bear, Coolio and Sampology (performing a Falls Anniversary AV Show). Apparently there’s still a whole stack more to come, and the lineup will be drip-fed as artists are locked in.
The Falls Festival holds a special place in my heart. It’s one of my favourite Australian music festivals. Not only have I seen the likes of Kings of Leon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Frans Ferdinand and Gomez there, but I’ve made new friends and welcomed in the new year during some totally rocking parties. And with this year marking the 20th year anniversary in Lorne, and 10th anniversary in Marion Bay, you can be confident they’ll be pulling out all the stops.
If you’ve never been before, I really think you should consider bringing in 2013 at the Falls Festival.
Hopefully I’ll see you there.
