My life and the daily grind

Help. I’m stuck in a rut. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. I need a new job.

At the moment I work in front of a computer all day. I have a fairly average desk job that pays well but is unrewarding. It’s not stimulating. It’s not interesting. It’s not fun. But it keeps me financially afloat and allows me to pay the bills.

But I’m not alone. Apparently a lot of people despise their day jobs. I know artists who work for councils or in cafes and spend all their spare time painting or creating sculptures. They work these jobs to support themselves and pursue their passion whenever they get the time. I suppose I’m the same really. When I’m not at work, I enjoy listening, talking about and writing about music and culture and what’s going on around me (like I’m doing right now).

Someone once told me, “Do what you enjoy and work out how people will pay you for it’’. I studied journalism at university, and am trying to work out how to apply the skills I gained from this degree and my passion for music in the workplace.  So, I know what I enjoy. Now I just need to find someone to pay me to do it.

At the moment I work as an intern at Everguide.com.au every Friday, which is awesome, because I get to write about music, entertainment and culture, which is what I enjoy. It’s great experience and a lot of fun, but it’s only one day a week.

The point is: I want a new job. Are you an employer? Does your business have an element of creativity involved in its daily routines? Want a writer? Hire me! I promise to laugh at your jokes, not steal from the drinks fridge and stay around after hours to get things done (I’m honestly quite the perfectionist a lot of the time).

However, if you’re also like me and you’re still searching for that ideal job, let’s keep our heads up and our eyes open. It’s all about chipping away. Making connections. Remaining determined. Don’t give up. We’ll get there one day.
